Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Dallas Choice Homes LLC, doing business as Rootd ("Rootd," "we," "our," or "us"), is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have. Rootd is a loc journey tracking application available on iOS and Android.

By using Rootd, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. Our principal place of business is 5900 Balcones Drive, Suite 100, Austin, Texas 78731.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information when you use Rootd:

  • Account information — your email address and display name, collected when you create an account.
  • Hair profile — loc start date, method, size, hair texture, porosity, scalp type, and care goals. You provide this voluntarily during onboarding.
  • Journal entries — dates, notes, scalp condition, moisture level, and wash day flags that you log in the app.
  • Retwist records — session dates, duration, method, loctician name, new growth measurements, and notes.
  • Progress photos — photos you choose to upload to track your journey visually.
  • Milestones — journey milestones generated from your data or created by you.
  • Device information — device type, operating system version, and push notification token (for reminders).
  • Usage data — app interactions and feature usage, collected anonymously via PostHog analytics.
  • Advertising identifiers — device advertising ID (IDFA on iOS / GAID on Android) used by Google AdMob to serve ads to free-tier users.

3. How We Use Your Data

  • Powering AI features — your journal entries, retwist records, and hair profile are sent to Anthropic's API to generate personalized AI insights, growth analysis, retwist readiness assessments, and Loc Reports. This data is processed on your behalf and is not used to train Anthropic's models.
  • App functionality — your data is stored in Supabase (PostgreSQL) to power your personal dashboard, history, and milestones.
  • Push notifications — your push token is used to send retwist reminders and milestone alerts that you configure in Settings.
  • Analytics — anonymous usage data is sent to PostHog to help us understand which features are most useful and where to improve the app.
  • Error monitoring — crash reports and error logs are sent to Sentry to help us identify and fix issues quickly.
  • Subscription management — purchase and subscription status is managed by RevenueCat.
  • Advertising (free tier only) — free-tier users see ads served by Google AdMob. We request non-personalized ads by default.

4. Third-Party Service Providers

The following third-party services may receive data as part of operating Rootd. We share data with these providers only as necessary to deliver the Service and do not sell your personal information to third parties.

5. Your Photos

Progress photos you upload remain yours. By uploading photos to Rootd, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to process those photos solely for the purpose of generating your personal AI insights within the app. Your photos are never sold, shared with third parties for advertising, or used to train AI models.

6. Data Security

We implement industry-standard measures to protect your personal information:

  • All data in transit is encrypted using TLS (Transport Layer Security).
  • Data at rest is encrypted by Supabase on their managed PostgreSQL and Storage infrastructure.
  • Access to user data is restricted to authorized personnel on a need-to-know basis.
  • Progress photos are stored in Supabase Storage with access-controlled bucket policies.

No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at support@rootdcentral.com.

7. Your Rights

  • Access — you can view all your data within the app at any time.
  • Correction — you can update your hair profile and personal information directly in the app.
  • Deletion — you can permanently delete your account and all associated data from Settings → Delete Account. Deletion is immediate and irreversible. See also: Delete Account.
  • Portability — you may request a copy of your data in a machine-readable format by emailing support@rootdcentral.com.

For EU / EEA Residents (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Union or European Economic Area, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The legal basis for processing your personal data is your consent, given when you create an account and use the app's features. You also have the right to:

  • Withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.
  • Object to or restrict processing of your personal data.
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.

For California Residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete it, and the right to opt out of the sale of your personal information. We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the service providers listed in Section 4, solely for the purpose of operating the app. To submit a CCPA request, email support@rootdcentral.com.

8. Advertising & Opting Out

Free-tier users see ads delivered by Google AdMob. We configure AdMob to serve non-personalized ads by default. If you wish to limit ad tracking on your device:

  • iOS — go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking, and disable "Allow Apps to Request to Track."
  • Android — go to Settings → Google → Ads, and enable "Opt out of Ads Personalization."

Upgrading to Rootd Premium removes all ads entirely.

9. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, all personal data — including your profile, journal entries, retwist records, progress photos, and AI reports — is permanently deleted within seconds. Anonymized, aggregated analytics data may be retained to improve the service.

10. Children's Privacy

Rootd is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us at support@rootdcentral.com and we will delete it promptly.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you via in-app notice or email at least 7 days before the change takes effect. Your continued use of Rootd after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
